Our Story

Where it all began.

Penguin Uniform was born from a feeling. Our CEO, Jared, spent his early career as a professional footballer. Every season began with a new kit bag — it wasn’t just clothing; it was a sense of belonging, identity, and pride.

Years later, in the embroidery industry, Jared saw that businesses experience the same thing. From a new apprentice getting their first polo to a sole trader seeing their logo on a jacket for the first time — uniform creates confidence. That is the foundation of Penguin Uniform.

Working in the garment decoration industry also exposed another problem. Too many businesses were expected to choose from endless catalogues without receiving genuine advice. We believed there had to be a better way — one built on recommendations, relationships, and long-term partnerships rather than simply selling products.

The first time someone wears branded workwear, something changes.

  • They stand a little taller.
  • Customers remember their name.
  • Teams begin to feel like one team.
  • New starters feel welcomed.
  • Businesses look established.
  • Pride replaces uncertainty.

We’ve watched that moment happen thousands of times — and it’s why we still love what we do.

The Penguin Philosophy

We believe in expertise over endless choice.

Expertise

We have access to 100,000+ products, but we only recommend what we’ve tested. We are specialists, not just a catalogue.

Honesty

Our advice is based on your industry. If a cheaper garment will last longer in your working environment, we’ll tell you.

Precision

Branding is your reputation. We check every artwork file and provide proofs to ensure your logo looks perfect before a single stitch is made.

In-House & Independent

Our production reality.

Based in Cheltenham, we are an independent, family-owned business. We manage everything in-house: design, embroidery, DTF printing, and quality control. With 26 commercial embroidery heads and thousands of garments leaving our facility weekly, we have the scale to handle large organisations while maintaining the care needed for a sole trader.

What We’ve Learned

Confidence over choice.

“Five years ago I thought success meant offering more products. Today I know it means recommending better ones.”

When Penguin Uniform started, we believed growing meant offering more. More brands. More garments. More choice.

Experience taught us something different. Customers rarely ask for more choice — they ask for more confidence:

  • Confidence they’re choosing the right garment.
  • Confidence their logo will look right.
  • Confidence the order will arrive on time.
  • Confidence they’re spending their money wisely.

Today we still have access to more than 100,000 products. But we’d rather recommend the best five than expect you to choose between five hundred.

We’ve always believed customers deserve honest advice, even when it’s not what they expected to hear. There’s an old saying in manufacturing: Good. Fast. Cheap. Pick two. We’ve never pretended otherwise. Rather than promising everything to everyone, we’d rather explain the trade-offs, recommend the right solution, and deliver on our word.

Why Businesses Stay

We become part of how you grow.

Businesses don’t stay with us because we’ve embroidered one polo shirt. They stay because we become part of how they grow.

Years later we’re still producing the same logo, keeping colours consistent and making reordering simple.

We don’t just decorate garments — we help businesses build recognisable brands.

Customer excellence is demonstrated, not promised.

We don’t want to be the biggest workwear company in the UK. We want to be the one businesses recommend when getting it right matters.

Our job isn’t to make customers fit our process. It’s to build a process that works around the way our customers work. That’s how we’ve always believed workwear should be supplied.
