Embroidery vs Print: The Specialist's Verdict

Stop guessing. Here is exactly which branding method your business actually needs.

The 60-Second Verdict

After 15 years running embroidery and print lines, my advice for UK trades is simple:

"If you are on-site daily, choose Embroidery for your chest logos. It is the only method that survives the repeated high-heat washing required for trades. However, if you need a large back logo for visibility, use DTF Print—it's flexible, lightweight, and won't make a garment feel like cardboard."

The Truth About Durability

Most shops tell you both are equal. They aren't. From a production standpoint, Embroidery is a structural change to the garment—we are physically knitting the brand into the fabric. It will almost always outlast the garment itself.

DTF (Direct to Film) Print is our recommendation for modern branding when detail is king. Unlike old-fashioned screen printing or cheap vinyl, our DTF tech bonds to the fibres. It’s perfect for complex, multi-colour logos, but on a heavy-duty fleece, it can’t compete with the 3D 'prestige' feel of a high-stitch-count embroidery.

Metric Embroidery DTF Print
Longevity Lifetime of garment (60°C wash safe) 50+ Washes (40°C recommended)
Best For Polos, Jackets, Hoodies, Beanies T-Shirts, Waterproofs, Hi-Vis, Large Backs

Expert FAQs

Which is better for heavy-duty site work?
Embroidery wins every time for site work. It handles the abrasion of tools, straps, and industrial washing better than any print method currently available.
Can you print on waterproofs?
Yes, and we usually recommend it. Embroidery needles pierce the waterproof membrane. For 100% moisture protection, DTF print is the technically superior choice for jackets.
